Friday Night Lights at John W. North High School: Riverside Spirit in Focus

There’s something so classic about Friday night lights in Riverside. The energy, the sounds, the pride somehow it all feels bigger than just a game. For me, this particular night at John W. North High School carried even more meaning. My daughter, Jordan, was performing with the John W. North Chamber Singers, opening the Homecoming game with the National Anthem.

As both a parent and a photographer, that’s a moment I couldn’t pass up.

Capturing the National Anthem: A Riverside Moment

The Chamber Singers lined up across the field behind the Cheerleader boxes a mix of nerves, excitement, and focus. One thing was missing...the choral director but that is a different story. When the first note hit, the stadium grew quiet. The sound of their harmonies carried through the fall air, and the pride on their faces said everything. I even leaned over to my wife commenting how great they sounded.

Moments like these remind me why I love high school photography — it’s about more than photos. It’s about documenting the confidence, teamwork, and emotion that define this chapter of life.

I snapped a few frames as Jordan and her group sang. The light was perfect — the kind of glow that makes you pause and appreciate how fleeting these seasons really are.

Riverside Cheer Team Brings the Energy at John W. North High School

I sat near a few parents who are good friends and her daughter is on the John W. North Cheer Team. She saw I had my camera and knows I am a photographer and asked if I would take some pictures, and before long, I was on the sidelines capturing the cheer squad in full force.

The Husky Cheer Team delivered energy, athleticism, and heart from the first whistle to the final cheer. Every lift, every jump, every smile. Let me tell you these girls can hustle to the end zone faster than the Football Players when a touchdown is made.

Halftime Show Highlights

Halftime at a Riverside high school football game is an experience of its own. The Blue Star Regiment band, the dancers, the crowd, all celebrating. I grabbed a few quick video clips and candid shots of the action. Nothing posed. Nothing staged. Just the real energy of John W. North High School doing what it does best: bringing people together. If you were in the stands that night, you know exactly what I mean. The Huskies brought it.

A Photographer’s View on School Spirit

As a Riverside senior photographer, I spend a lot of time capturing the stories of students across the Inland Empire — from John W. North to Poly, King, and beyond. Each school has its own personality, its own sense of community.

At John W. North, what stood out most was connection between students, parents, and teachers. You can feel the pride here. And when you photograph it, that pride shows up in every image.

This is what makes photographing Riverside seniors so rewarding: every student has a story worth celebrating.

Why These Moments Matter for Seniors

If you’re a John W. North senior or a parent of one then you already know how quickly this year goes by. Between games, performances, and finals, graduation is suddenly right around the corner.

That’s why senior portraits are more than just a box to check. They’re a way to capture everything that makes this season of life so special like your friends, your spirit, your style, and your growth.

When I work with seniors, I help plan sessions around what makes you unique, whether that’s your team, your art, your confidence, or your quiet strength.

Because these aren’t just photos. They’re your story.

A Riverside Senior Photographer Who Knows the Scene

I’ve been photographing seniors across the Inland Empire for years — students from John W. North High School, Poly High, King High, and others who want something more than just a yearbook headshot.

We plan everything:

  • The locations that fit your personality (Downtown Riverside, local parks, or the school field where it all began).

  • The wardrobe that shows who you are.

  • The products that last like albums, keepsake boxes, and wall art built to be shared and remembered.

Whether you’re a cheerleader, performer, athlete, or artist, I’ll help you create senior portraits that feel personal and timeless.

Community and Pride in Riverside

Riverside schools thrive because of their community; the parents who show up, the teachers who care, and the students who push each other to do their best. Being part of this community and getting to photograph it is something I take seriously. Every frame is a small piece of Riverside history.

From the John W. North Homecoming game to your senior portraits, these are the moments that connect us.

Ready for Your Senior Portraits?

To all the students who performed, cheered, and sang that night, I'd like to say thank you for letting me capture a few glimpses of your story.

If you’re a Riverside senior (or a John W. North junior starting to plan ahead), I’d love to create portraits that celebrate who you are right now — confident, driven, and full of spirit.
