Serious Smiles for Shri

When Shri first contacted me to take his senior portraits to celebrate his graduation from the University of California, Riverside in sunny California, I asked him what he hoped to do with the images. He told me he wasn't sure BUT he knew he needed to have them taken because when his brother graduated he didn't take the time to have portraits taken and his Mom was MAD!

Shri being a good son, knew that to keep Mom happy he needed to have his senior portraits made and would worry about worry about what to do with the images later. That is, Shri didn't really have a vision for what he wanted from his portrait session but he knew that graduation marks a point in life where the memories need to be preserved.

Before Shri's senior portrait session we developed a plan for him to bring a few friends, the different locations he wanted on campus, and the kind of look he was going for. Now here is the thing - Shri is a FUNNY guy he makes folks laugh and he laughs a lot. However, he told me that he wanted some serious looking images. You know, the ones where there is no smile and you look off into the distance pensively. So we did both the serious look and the happy look at nearly every place we photographed. After about an hour and a half portrait session all around the UCR campus I went home and uploaded the photos. When I looked at them I knew we had captured some straight fire!

About a week later when we had Shri's purchasing session I observed the most amazing thing. Even though Shri wanted those serious poses - they were not actually his favorites. In fact, I think he only purchased one serious image (for his Dad). The rest of the images were filled with his infectious smile which matches his infectious personality. I helped Shri design an awesome photo book and get great prints to give his family as gifts. Congratulation Shri on your graduation and I wish you the best of luck in your next great adventure.
